What makes great porn? A talk with the Understanding Pornography in Australia Project w/ Alan McKee and Kath Albury Thursday, July 9, 7-10pm Cost: $10-20 The “Understanding Pornography in Australia” project was the largest study of pornography ever conducted in that country. The results were published in book form as The Porn Report in 2008. In this workshop, two of the study’s authors will present their findings about what makes great pornography – and ask for feedback from participants. What great porn are you watching right now? Or perhaps you’re making some porn – what’s it like? Associate Professor Alan McKee is a sober, respectable, well-behaved social scientist. He’ll talk about a survey of 1000 Australian consumers of pornography, and what they identified as the key characteristics of good (and bad) pornography. Dr Kath Albury is an educator and researcher specialising in the intersections of media, sex, ethics and sexual health. She’ll talk about ethical pornography. At the end of the session we will ask participants to help us draw up a Pornography Consumer’s Manifesto for Great Porn. Course materials are available by request For background information see http://thepornreportbook.com and http://www.kathalbury.com
