AUGUST '05 EVENTS

Wednesday, 8/3, 7 pm: Sex Ed Student Salon

Are you a student in one of the Bay Area's sex education programs, or doing a minor, an independent study, or a special focus on sexuality? Or are you thinking about joining one of these programs or shifting the focus of your education toward sexuality studies? Please join us for our first-ever salon evening, where sex ed students can meet, discuss issues unique to their academic careers, compare the focus of their programs, and get to know each other. You're the next generation of sex academicians and professionals, so start networking now! If this is a useful meeting we'll do it on a regular basis. No charge, but if you can, bring drinks or nibbles to share, and donations to CSC will be gratefully accepted. Please spread the word! 398 11th Street at Harrison. (What, you're not a student but you like the idea of a sex salon? What topic/s interest you? Email us and let us know; you might influence our future programming with your great ideas.)

Thursday and Friday, 8/4 and 8/5, 8 pm: Carol Queen performs her solo spoken word evening, Peep Show.

Half the proceeds will go to CSC; $10--20 sliding scale, $5 off for students, CSC members, and Lusty Lady staff past and present! Doors open at 7. Go backstage at the pre-union Lusty Lady Theatre! Carol, an early-‘90s alumna of the Lusty, takes her audience backstage for an intimate introduction to the secrets of the peep show. Meet her colleagues, with their over-the-top femme personae; the customers, from whom Carol learned her mother was wrong when she said that “men only want one thing”; and the theatre itself, where every windowed booth serves as a sort of erotic confessional. Queen (a.k.a. Minx Manx) was definitely one Live Nude Girl who loved her job, partly because she – a sexology grad student at the time – learned from it how amazingly diverse sex really is. The show lasts about two hours and is all extemporaneously told. Expect a funny, surprising, moving visit behind the locked doors of the Private Pleasures Booth.

CSC is located at 398 11th Street at Harrison in San Francisco. Doors
open on show nights at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8. Tickets are $10--20 sliding scale, with $5 off for students, CSC members, and Lusty Lady staff past and present. Tickets can be reserved by calling (415) 255-1155 or emailing mail@sexandculture.org. Cash and checks will be accepted at the door. Prepaid tickets are available via Paypal at CSC’s website, www.sexandculture.org. (Please add $2 for handling when using the Paypal option, and email CSC with your contact information and how many tickets you wish to purchase.)

Carol Queen has performed "Peep Show" all over the US and Canada, but only once before in its entirety in San Francisco. In 2003 she took an excerpt of the longer piece through the southwest with the Sex Workers’ Art Show Tour, and she has performed the show in Toronto, Boston, Seattle, Minneapolis, and elsewhere. On August 4 and 5 she'll be backed by the video stylings of the creative Vann Hall, who accompanied her in May when she performed the Bay Area premiere of "Peep Show" at the Roxie as part of the Sex Workers' Art and Video Festival.

Saturday August 20 at The Rawhide, located at 280 7th St. in San Francisco (please note date change since our last mailing): BOOGIE NIGHTS!

Spectator Magazine and numerous other adult oriented businesses are pooling their talents and resources to benefit the Sex Positive community by holding a benefit for local charitable organizations The Center For Sex and Culture, The St. James Infirmary, The SF Sex Info Hotline and The Lusty Lady.

Due to numerous cuts in budgets and a general attitude of apathy
towards these ventures, funding has been drastically cut and important programs are being forced to consider cutting hours and services in order to make up for the deficit. The following companies have come together to hold a one night extravaganza benefit to help fill the funding gap through sponsorship and donations:
The Spectator Magazine, Dark Garden Corsetry, Bondage A Go-Go, Foot Worship, The Lusty Ladies, Cybernet Entertainment, Cyber-Dyke Network, Felicity’s Fetishe, Mom’s Tattoo, Romantasy, The Greenery Press, Homegrown Video, Madame S, Mr. S, and many others… “Boogie Nights” features classic Disco beats, real live vintage Porn, real live vintage Porn Stars, raffles, prizes for best costume, for best dancers, a spanking booth, silent auction and more all to bring the Sex Positive community together. Doors at 8:51 pm. We are asking local businesses for donations of gift certificates, retail items or services to be offered in the raffles and/or silent auction.
