Monday, June 18, 7 pm -- WHAT IS NOT ABOUT SEX? Readings by S/M Authors Sora Counts, Wendy Dalton, Dossie Easton, Bill Henkin, Liz Henry, and Carol Queen

Many authors in the leather community have become well known for their writings on SM and sex, but some have gifts that go beyond our mutually enjoyable kinks. As a community we frequently support wonderful readings of erotica by wonderful writers -- but don't you sometimes wonder what else they write?

In this evening's event, a half-dozen poets who have long-standing credentials in the radical sex community share their own poetry on nature, love, war, philosophy, spirituality, and other subjects. So what isn't about sex? Come find out.

Doors Open 6:30 PM (store will be open beforehand for shopping, but probably not after)

Good Vibrations, 1620 Polk Street, between Clay and Sacramento

Sex & Intimacy in Chronic Illness & Disability
Monday, June 18, 6-9 pm

Illness and disability affect most people at some point in their lives and pose major challenges for sexual expression, connection, and pleasure. People with illness and their partners often find that loss of sexual expression and sexual well-being damages their quality of life and their motivation to be well. David Spero RN, a health coach and author living with multiple sclerosis (MS), will help you develop your ability to work with clients who are dealing with disability and long-term health concerns. You'll learn about the barriers to intimacy and love that chronically ill people face, and ways to help them solve these problems. Find out how to help people adapt their sexual practices to fit their limitations and find partners or strengthen connection with those they already have. These skills will help you enhance clients' well-being and may even improve your own sex life as well!

David Spero, RN is a 55-year-old nurse, journalist, activist and health educator living in San Francisco. He coaches individuals with chronic conditions, leads wellness groups, and counsels healthcare providers on more effective ways to help their patients. David is author The Art of Getting Well: Maximizing Health When You Have a Chronic Illness (Hunter House 2002). He has also co-written educational programs for people with arthritis, asthma, chronic pain, and other conditions; and gives sex and intimacy workshops for the disabled and chronically ill for the MS Society and the Center for Sex and Culture.

Objectives: By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least three barriers to sexual interest/expression for disabled/chronically ill people and give one strategy for overcoming each.
  • Give three reasons to address issues of sexuality when working with disabled/chronically ill clients.
  • Describe two barriers to finding partners for disabled/CI people and give one strategy that may help overcome each.
This workshop is approved for 3 AASECT CE credits.

Thursday, June 21, 7:30-10:30 -- BAWDY STORYTELLING with Dixie de la Tour: "Casual Encounters"
No charge, but we'll be gratefully accepting donations for CSC
At CSC, 290 Division (cross 10th and Brannan), Suite 405

Dixie says: We'll be telling stories that don't fade out like they do in movies. I'm an avid fan of Porchlight Storytelling and my friend Ray Allen's Memoir Spool event, but couldn't help but notice that there wasn't a venue for people like us to relate our adventures. So, I'm hoping you'll join us and if you're so inclined, please regale us with an Adventure. There's no pressure to get up and tell a story, but I know my friends have some bawdy tales in their arsenal and I'm hoping you'll share. It's social, it's pervy... and aural sex is the safest sex you'll ever have.

Ever had a Casual Encounter?
Yes, there's that part of Craigslist that has offered so many of us tales of lust and horror. But there's so many different ways to hookup on the spur of the moment: some folks <ahem> used this thing called the Night Exchange and other phone services to meet Mr. Right now. Free ads in the Wild Side or other personal sites helped you adventurous types find that twisted partner in crime... if only for a night or two.

Adventures were meant to be shared, so cum share!

Our next Bawdy Storytelling Night will be Thursday, June 21st, and the theme this time is "Casual Encounters". I'm hoping you'll join us and if you're so inclined, please regale us with a Casual Encounter Story. There's no pressure to get up and tell a story, but I know y'all have some bawdy tales, and I'm hoping you'll tell. Let me know if you would like to tell a story. I LOVE knowing who my storytellers are in advance. You're welcome to be impulsive at the event, as well. We had a slew of storytellers last time! Tell your friends and bring 'em if you think this would be their cup of tea....

Why not get up and tell a story of your own? Contact Dixie (shutyercakehole@hotmail.com) if you have a story to share, or you can also just let her know at the event if you'd like to be a last minute addition to the line-up.

Suggestions for telling a story:

  1. Keep your story under ten minutes in length
  2. If you're new to this, rehearse it a time or two in front of at least one other person
  3. No reading! But crib notes are OK.
  4. If you name names in your story, change 'em. The pervy community is fairly small, after all.

Sunday, June 24, all day -- HELP CSC AND VOLUNTEER AT PRIDE!
We need your help! As usual, instead of marching we will be staffing a gate so we can earn $ for CSC from the Pride Grants Committee. We still need a few more volunteers to attend one of three shifts (10-12:30, 12:30-3, and 3-5:30), and if possible two folks to take the longer Supervisor shifts: 9-1:30 and 1-5:30. Please zip me an email if you can help out! The responsibilities are simple: welcome people to Pride and ask if they'd like to make a donation. Supervisors make sure everyone is checked in correctly and they keep in touch with Pride staff, with necessary, on a 2-way radio. Great way to flirt with cute people of all genders! Our gate this year is at Hayes and Polk. Bring water, sunscreen, a sweater, and not much else -- there's nowhere to keep your stuff. If you must, bring a cloth carry bag so you can tie its handles to the gate and keep it somewhat secure that way.

Sunday, June 24th, 9:30am-5:30pm -- BECOME AN EXTRAORDINARY LOVER for Men who Love Women.

There is nothing more arousing than watching a woman you are making love to writhe and moan with delight. However, there are very few places to get practical, explicit, and straightforward advice about what turns women on.

In this hands-on, one-day workshop, Danielle and Celeste will teach you everything from the arts of romance and seduction to advanced pleasure techniques. They will teach you to read women's non-verbal cues, to elicit information about her secret sexual desires, and to keep her coming back for more.

You will have the opportunity to practice different kinds of touch on a woman, understand her responses, and receive helpful feedback. The facilitators will cover how to give pleasure during a sexual encounter and explore special oral techniques.

At CSC, 290 Division, Suite 405 in San Francisco.

Tuition is $395. Bring a friend and get $50 off of the original price!

About Celeste and Danielle:
Fulfilling sex is a vital human need and the basis of a healthy, motivated and passionate life.
