OCTOBER EVENTS

Friday-Sunday, 10/5-7 -- Carol Queen speaks at Arse Elektronika's conference PR0NNOVAATION: PORNOGRAPHY AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION

CQ will be there early on 10/6 and then jet away to a Woodhull Freedom Foundation gig in Philadelphia. But YOU can stay for the whole weekend!

From the depiction of a vulva in a cave painting to the newest internet porno, technology and sexuality have always been closely linked. No one can predict what the future will bring, but history indicates that sex will continue to play an essential role in technological development. The porno effect accompanies every new technological development. Is it going too far to assume that research in nanotechnology and genetic engineering will be influenced by our sexual needs? The surgical modification of sexual organs is no longer something very unusual. The question is not whether these technologies alter humanity, but how they do so.

This international conference will be held at the Porn Palace. For tickets and much more detail see http://monochrom.at/arse-elektronika/.

Here's CQ's abstract; the talk will be 10/6 at noon:

Your Great-Grandmother's Vibrator: How the technologies of our times shape sex and pleasure

If your great-grandmother had a vibrator (and it's very possible she did), it got into her hands thanks to technological advances as well as contemporary understandings of health and well-being. If she used it to have an orgasm, it's possible that she didn't know what the sensation was; and if she learned about vibrator use from a medical doctor, as she may well have done, it's possible he didn't know it was an orgasm either. But if your great-grandfather went down to the club and watched pornography with the boys, he may have realized the implement on his wife's nightstand was the same device he could see on the screen: one reason not every doctor today recommends you use a vibrator!

Carol Queen will examine some of the history of pleasure-giving devices (at least one of which, it turns out, was also a labor-saving device) and offer some thoughts about their future. Along the way she'll discuss pleasure; some social definitions of sex; the role/s gender may play in our use of technological sex enhancers; and some ways that technologies shape sexual identity and possibility.
Friday opening party $5; conference $25.

Wednesday October 17, 7-9 pm -- ORGASMIC BREATHING

Would you like to experience an orgasm from breath alone?
Do you notice and derive pleasure from your breath?
Do you want to enhance the ecstasy and fulfillment of partner sex safely, freely, and at any time you choose?

Come experience breath like you've never known it before. Together we will learn a series of different breath practices that you can continue to explore and integrate into your erotic life long after you leave this workshop.

Using breath, sound, and movement, we will bring attention to the erotic energy that our bodies are capable of producing at any given moment. You will learn how to build that energy, increasing it throughout your entire body. As each of us expands our erotic energy, we will envelop ourselves in a group erotic vibratory force field, which will grow and expand, raising higher and higher, until it peaks into a group energetic orgasm.

Tuesday October 30, 7-9:30 pm -- TAOIST EROTIC MASSAGE FOR MEN

Experience the power of sacred sexuality in this hands-on, clothes-off workshop.

This 2.5 hour workshop will focus on the male as receiver. Men must attend with a partner. This workshop welcomes givers of any sex/gender identity.

We will practice a series of conscious breathwork techniques and Taoist erotic massage, which can lead to extended, full-body orgasm and an altered mind-state conducive to spiritual insights. Honestly, if you're looking to get off, this isn't for you – this is a spiritual, erotic, non-ejaculatory practice that stimulates and spreads erotic energy throughout the body. It is very hot, but it isn't sex as you normally think of it.

After the introduction and demonstration, we will practice the breathwork, and you will be guided through a series of different genital massage strokes. Participants will then have an opportunity to give or receive a 40 minute massage with integrated breathwork and coaching. There is no sexual interaction between the giver and receiver except for the massage itself, and all boundaries will be respected.
